THE BIG TRIP TO... Oh Wait...

As the rest of the class prepared for the excitement of a trip to the French capital for a design trip, me and a few unlucky others were stuck at home in Limerick... the joys! However it wouldnt be PDT if we didnt have any work to do so we were left with a brief to complete titled; Look Up! It was aimed at getting us out and about to view the sights around us, we had to pick 3 or 4 examples of good design that appealed to us and write an analysis on it. I set out to find examples and there was no shortage of them.

The first piece of good design that appealed to me was a Dyson hand held hoover which my Mother uses at home. I first of all think it is just a cool looking piece of equipment the way part of it is transparent and also the colour scheme is very eye catching, the tone of matte yellow/orange looks great with the grey finish for the rest. The use of both matte and gloss really works well together and gives the piece a really professional look. The hoover has a very aesthetic feel in the hand too and this comes in handy to manoevure it in tricky spaces. The hoover is quite powerful too, more powerful than some conventional hoovers and I think this is a great achievement to fit such a powerful motor in such a small space.
My favourite piece of equipment and design has to be my putter that I use for golf! I have to admit I did test a lot of putters when I was buying it because everyone is different when it comes to it, as everyones putting technique is different. This putter however got my attention straight away, others might like the simple old style putter with a silver coloured head but not me!

I thought this putter was the coolest thing I had ever seen! The shape, the colour the feel of the grip, I instantly wanted it, After being loored in by the aesthetic side of things, the feel of the putter in the hand was second to none, odyssey (the manufacturers) got it spot on, the softness of the face when you hit the ball gives a great feel and sense of control. I have to admit all in all this putter is the full package in terms of product design, it looks fantastic and performs even better on the greens so I have to say I love this design. I think the reason I appreciate this design so much is that when I was in fifth year I was also obsessed with golf and I always dreamed of working for Taylormade in california who manufacture golf clubs. I already had a fair idea I wanted to do something in line of design so I searched there website to see any job vacancies and I found a lot to do with product designers! So it has been my dream since then to design golf clubs for taylormade in Calfornia. If i keep my head down and work hard enough then some day it might come true!
Another piece of design I was always amazed by was something a lot of people reading this will be familiar with.. The Living Bridge in UL! From the moment I first saw UL and was thinking of studying here I was amazed at this bridge, my first impressions were that I couldnt believe a bridge like this was in a college, it looks fit for any city center! I really like the shape of it the way it gets narrow and then wide and this pattern is repeated a couple of times throughout the walk. It adds a very modern look to the bridge and it looks even cooler when it is illuminated at night time.
