Lets go to the movies

We've all seen movies and wondered how they're made but today we got a chance to go behind the camera and produce a masterpiece of our own.

In preparation for our sizzle reels (which are due in a couple of weeks) our contemporary design class this week had the task of creating a short film. Based on one of two themes; journey or emotion. The choice was ours, I had no idea how enjoyable a class this was going to be. Put into groups of five we quickly decided on the journey theme and with rag week looming there was really only one way this film was going to go. I'll leave the rest up to your imagination. As we brainstormed ideas quickly I've never seen people so eager, it was great! Anything was possible, we had enough ideas to make an hour long movie let alone fit it into a few minutes, this was the hardest part. Although this task was about making a story I actually think my brainstorming skills benefitted from it also. Each of us would suggest an idea and everyone would shout out different ideas to add onto this and this made for an interesting story.

We went back to my house excited to begin filming, Cian Dolphin Murray was the main actor in this, and he has since been nominated for an Oscar for his ingenious role I might add! I can honestly say I haven't had as much as a laugh as I did while filming ever in college, every time we shot a scene we would look back at it and we would all be in hysterics. The tale was a journey of a typical college student on rag week. Cian woke up hungover in his sitting room at 08:56 leaving him four minutes to get to his lecture and our film showed just how treacherous of a journey it can be to make it to college when your hungover, the people you meet along the way and I think we really captured a sense of realism with this film, after all we've all experienced it before! Eventually he made it to college, late however and was turned away by the lecturer. After his valiant efforts in trying to make it to college but failing, he decided to seize the day and with that headed off to the stables bar to repeat his day over again.

I thoroughly enjoyed this contemporary design class, it was my favourite so far! It was great to get so hands on and active instead of sitting in a class room. I also got a chance to see what its like to make a film aswell as getting the opportunity to try out editing software to add in music, to cut down scene times and to just overall make a masterpiece out of a load of different clips. I was proud of our masterpiece and was only delighted to get the opportunity to show it off to our classmates at the screening!
